FAQ
Can POP 4 be used outdoors?
Yes, POP 4 performs well in bright lighting conditions. In VCSEL rapid mode, it can operate stably in lighting of up to 100,000 lux. In multi-line laser scanning mode, it supports outdoor lighting conditions of up to 50,000 lux. For lighting above 50,000 lux, using a magnetic outdoor filter is recommended.
Does POP 4 have a built-in battery?
POP 4 does not have a built-in battery and must be powered via a USB-C to USB-C cable connected to an external power source. An optional Battery Grip can be used for portable wireless scanning.
How should I scan transparent or highly reflective objects?
Please use scanning spray when scanning transparent or specular surfaces. Scanning spray can be purchased from Revopoint's official online store.
What are the differences between the POP 4 and the POP 3 Plus scanners?
(1) Technology: POP 4 uses blue light multi-line laser, near-infrared full-field structured light, and VCSEL infrared structured light technologies, while POP 3 Plus uses only infrared structured light technology.
(2)Accuracy: POP 4's line laser scanning mode has a single-frame accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, with a volumetric accuracy of 0.03 mm + 0.05 mm × L (m) in marker mode. The full-field structured light mode offers a single-frame accuracy of up to 0.08 mm, while VCSEL structured light achieves 0.10 mm at a working distance of 300-500 mm and 0.20 mm at 500-800 mm. In comparison, POP 3 Plus offers a single-frame accuracy of up to 0.08 mm using structured light.
(3)Scanning mode: POP 4 supports full-field HD mode, VCSEL rapid mode, hybrid HD mode, 30-line cross laser mode and single-line deep-hole mode, covering a variety of indoor and outdoor application scenarios; POP 3 Plus only supports structured light scanning mode and is intended for indoor scanning.
(4)Special object scanning: The POP 4 can scan highly reflective or dark surfaces in multi-line laser mode without scanning spray, while POP 3 Plus requires scanning spray for such surfaces. Additionally, POP 4's VCSEL rapid mode enables high-speed marker-free scans of featureless objects in feature tracking mode, which is not supported by POP 3 Plus.
(5)Outdoor capability: POP 4 supports bright light environments of up to 100,000 lux (such as midday sunlight), while POP 3 Plus is mainly designed for indoor or low-light conditions.
(2)Accuracy: POP 4's line laser scanning mode has a single-frame accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, with a volumetric accuracy of 0.03 mm + 0.05 mm × L (m) in marker mode. Do I need to use markers during scans?
In laser line scanning mode, using markers is a must. In structured light scanning mode, it depends on object features: for objects with rich geometric features, markers are not required; for featureless objects, markers are needed for stable tracking. When using markers, place them in an irregular pattern on the object surface and ensure that at least five markers are visible within each frame during scanning. In addition, POP 4's VCSEL rapid mode supports high-speed markerless scanning of featureless objects using feature tracking.
How do I use the calibration board?
It is recommended to enter the calibration program and calibrate your Revopoint 3D scanner using the Calibration Board before scanning. The steps are as follows:
(1) Connect the scanner to a PC using the USB Cable and open the Revo Scan 6 Software.
(2) Click the "Calibration" button in the lower left corner to enter the calibration program.
(3) Place the Calibration Board on a flat surface, ensuring the pattern on the board is clearly visible.
(4) Scan the QR code to import the Calibration Board's information, then check the scanner's accuracy. If the accuracy check fails, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration.

How long does the Battery Grip power the POP 4?
The Battery Grip has a built-in 5500 mAh lithium battery, providing approximately 4 hours of runtime under normal usage conditions, making it suitable for extended outdoor operation.
Can I cast the screen of Revo Scan 6 to my phone wirelessly?
Yes. The Revo Mirror software enables casting of the PC scanning interface to your phone, allowing real-time preview and control from a mobile device.
Can I use the multi-line laser mode on a phone?
No, Multi-line laser mode requires a Wi-Fi connection to a PC, with the scan interface mirrored to the phone in real time. However, full-field structured light mode and VCSEL rapid mode can be used on a mobile device independently.
Do I need to purchase the software separately?
No, POP 4 comes with free scanning software Revo Scan 6. You can scan, edit, merge, and import/export models offline.
